Senior Interaction Designer

Salary: £60,000 - £70,000 (+ benefits)

We are looking for an SC Cleared Senior Interaction Designer to join a digital consultancy delivering complex, user-centred services across UK Central Government and the wider public sector.

This is a role for an Interaction Designer with real depth in their discipline — someone who can look beyond individual screens and understand how users move through an end-to-end service.

You’ll work across discovery, alpha and delivery, translating complex user, business and technical requirements into clear, accessible and intuitive digital experiences. Working within multidisciplinary teams, you’ll collaborate closely with User Researchers, Content Designers, Service Designers, Developers and client stakeholders to create solutions that are desirable, feasible and effective.

Due to the nature of the work valid SC Clearance is essential.

What you’ll be doing

• Leading interaction design activities across discovery, alpha and delivery
• Translating user needs and complex requirements into clear, usable interactions
• Creating wireframes, prototypes, interaction models and reusable design patterns
• Rapidly prototyping ideas to support user research and evidence-based decision making
• Working closely with User Researchers to test designs and iterate based on findings
• Collaborating with Content Designers and Service Designers across the wider end-to-end experience
• Working directly with Developers to ensure designs are technically feasible and implemented effectively
• Facilitating workshops and collaborative design sessions with clients and stakeholders
• Championing accessibility, inclusive design and user-centred design principles
• Supporting and influencing design decisions across multidisciplinary delivery teams

What we’re looking for

• Strong professional experience within Interaction Design, UX Design or Product Design
• Demonstrable experience designing complex digital services rather than purely visual interfaces
• Strong wireframing and prototyping capability
• Experience designing accessible and inclusive digital experiences
• Confidence working directly with customers and senior stakeholders
• Experience facilitating workshops and collaborative design sessions
• Strong understanding of user-centred design and evidence-led iteration
• Experience working closely with Developers and multidisciplinary delivery teams
• An understanding of the relationship between interaction, service and content design

Highly desirable

• Previous experience delivering services within UK Government or the wider public sector
• Experience working within GDS / Government Digital Service environments
• Familiarity with the GOV.UK Design System
• Understanding of the Government Service Standard and service assessments
• Experience working across discovery, alpha, beta and live service phases
• Previous consultancy or client-facing experience
