Job Description

User Researcher
Permanent
Location: UK – Remote
Salary: £50,000 - £55,000 (+ benefits)

Skills: User Research, UX Research, Qualitative Research, User-Centred Design, GDS / Government Digital Services

We are looking for an SC Cleared User Researcher to join a digital consultancy delivering user-centred services across UK Government and the wider public sector.

This role would suit someone who is naturally curious, confident engaging with both users and stakeholders, and keen to influence the wider service rather than simply produce research reports.

You’ll plan and deliver research throughout the service lifecycle, helping multidisciplinary teams understand user needs, behaviours and motivations and turn those insights into evidence-based decisions.

Due to the nature of the work valid SC Cleared is required.

What you’ll be doing

  • Planning and delivering qualitative user research across digital services
  • Selecting appropriate research methods based on user and service needs
  • Conducting interviews, usability testing, contextual research and other research activities
  • Analysing findings and translating them into clear, actionable insights
  • Communicating research effectively to designers, developers, analysts and stakeholders
  • Facilitating workshops and collaborative sessions
  • Working closely with Interaction Designers, Content Designers and Service Designers
  • Ensuring user needs remain central throughout discovery, design and delivery
  • Helping teams identify assumptions, validate ideas and make evidence-based decisions
  • Contributing to the wider design and improvement of end-to-end services

What we’re looking for

  • Strong professional experience within User Research / UX Research
  • Excellent qualitative research skills
  • Experience independently planning and facilitating research
  • Strong interviewing, usability testing and research analysis capability
  • Ability to communicate complex findings clearly and concisely
  • Confidence presenting insights and recommendations to stakeholders
  • Experience working within multidisciplinary delivery teams
  • Strong understanding of user-centred design principles
  • Comfortable facilitating workshops and collaborative sessions
  • Interest in wider service design and experience improvement

Highly desirable

  • Previous experience delivering research within UK Government or the wider public sector
  • Experience working within GDS / Government Digital Service environments
  • Understanding of the Government Service Standard and service assessments
  • Experience conducting research across discovery, alpha, beta and live services
  • Experience researching with users who have accessibility or assisted-digital needs
  • Previous consultancy or client-facing experience
