Director of Product Portfolio & Investment
6 Month Contract

Rate: £800 - £900 per day (Inside IR35)

We are looking to recruit a Director of Product Portfolio & Investment for a leading software company on an initial 6 month contract. The role will focus on bringing financial discipline, strategic clarity and structured governance to its product investment landscape.

Reporting to the Chief Product Officer, this is a high-visibility leadership role responsible for ensuring product capital allocation decisions are analytically robust, commercially sound and aligned to long-term value creation.

This role sits at the intersection of Product, Finance and Corporate Development — shaping how investment decisions are evaluated, prioritised and governed across a complex, multi-vertical portfolio.

This is a remote role with some travel into London when required.

The Role

This position is fundamentally about financial rigour and portfolio optimisation.

You will:

Portfolio Investment & Financial Modelling

• Build and own product P&L business cases across the portfolio
• Develop robust financial models including ROI, IRR, payback period, revenue forecasting and churn analysis
• Lead market sizing, unit economics modelling and scenario planning
• Ensure investment cases meet defined financial modelling standards
• Provide credible challenge and validation of assumptions

Capital Allocation & Prioritisation

• Create a unified view of product investments across business lines
• Establish structured prioritisation frameworks to maximise portfolio impact
• Identify interdependencies, conflicts and trade-offs across roadmaps
• Guide investment decisions based on financial and strategic return

M&A Business Case Support

• Partner with Corporate Development to build acquisition P&Ls
• Contribute financial modelling and portfolio analysis during due diligence
• Assess product and technology alignment from an investment perspective

Portfolio Governance & Planning

• Design scalable portfolio governance frameworks
• Establish consistent planning cycles and investment gates
• Embed performance tracking across all product lines
• Ensure investment decisions align with broader corporate objectives

Executive Advisory

• Provide portfolio performance insights and investment recommendations to the CPO and executive team
• Translate complex portfolio dynamics into clear, decision-ready narratives
• Represent investment rationale confidently in cross-functional forums

About You

You will bring a strong financial foundation combined with strategic systems thinking.

• Product Operations within a SaaS environment
• Portfolio management in a PE-backed software business

You will have:

• Demonstrable experience building and defending P&L models
• Deep understanding of IRR, ROI, payback period and churn analysis
• Strong commercial judgement and financial credibility
• Experience working across multi-product B2B software portfolios
• Confidence influencing senior stakeholders without direct authority
• Exceptional executive communication skills

Highly Desirable

• Experience in a PE-backed or high-growth SaaS organisation
• Exposure to M&A evaluation and due diligence processes
• Track record establishing portfolio governance frameworks
• Experience operating across competing product priorities
