Job Title: Data Engineer (Defence, SQL Focus)

Location: South West England (3 days onsite per week)

Rate: Up to £850 per day

Duration: 6 months

We’re seeking a talented Data Engineer to join our team on a 6-month contract, working inside IR35 with a competitive rate of up to £850 per day. You’ll work onsite in South West England for 3 days a week, collaborating with a multidisciplinary team to deliver impactful solutions in a secured environment.

Key Responsibilities:

• SQL Expertise: Use your deep knowledge of SQL (preferably Postgres or CockroachDB) to deliver performant, scalable solutions.
• Database Deployment & Support: Deploy and support databases while applying best practices for configuration and performance.
• Query Optimization: Write and optimize database queries to improve performance and fill current skill gaps.
• Database Evaluation: Evaluate the pros and cons of SQL and NoSQL solutions to inform strategic decision-making.
• Containerized Environments: (Desirable) Leverage experience with containerized databases (e.g., Docker) to guide deployment and troubleshoot quirks.
• Secured Environments: Bring your expertise in databases within secured (defence, financial, etc.) and assured environments.
• Flyway Migration: Work with Flyway for database version control and migrations.

Skills & Experience:

• Current or transferable SC clearance is essential.
• Strong proficiency in SQL databases (Postgres, CockroachDB preferred; Oracle considered).
• Experience in both deploying and supporting databases, as well as writing and optimizing queries.
• Knowledge of NoSQL databases is advantageous.
• Familiarity with containerized environments (e.g., Docker) is a plus.
• Proven experience in secured and assured environments, such as defence or finance.
• Hands-on experience with database tools like Flyway.
