Job Description
Senior Data Scientist – Python / Machine Learning
Permanent
Location: UK – Remote
Salary: £65,000 - £70,000 (+ benefits)
Skills: Python, Machine Learning, Statistical Modelling, AWS, Data Engineering
An exciting opportunity has arisen for an experienced Senior Data Scientist to join a growing international technology business developing innovative, AI-powered software solutions.
Working within a specialist Data & AI team, you'll combine advanced statistical modelling with hands-on Python software engineering, helping to develop, improve and maintain production systems used by customers worldwide.
This is not a traditional reporting or analytics-focused Data Scientist position. We're looking for someone who enjoys solving complex mathematical problems and has the technical ability to turn models and algorithms into reliable, production-ready software.
You'll work across data science, machine learning, data engineering and AI development, with the opportunity to influence new product capabilities.
This is a UK based role that is fully remote.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop, maintain and enhance statistical models and machine learning algorithms.
- Build production-quality Python applications, services and APIs.
- Support and improve existing mathematical modelling and automated assessment systems.
- Develop and maintain data pipelines, services and infrastructure.
- Contribute to new AI capabilities, including Large Language Models (LLMs), embeddings, semantic search and Retrieval-Augmented Generation (RAG).
- Deploy, monitor and troubleshoot production data and machine learning systems.
- Work collaboratively with software engineers, data specialists and product teams.
- Apply mathematical and statistical techniques to solve complex technical challenges.
Skills & Experience Required
- 5+ years' experience in Data Science, Machine Learning Engineering or a closely related technical discipline.
- Strong commercial Python programming experience, including developing clean, tested and maintainable production code.
- Excellent mathematical and statistical knowledge, including probability, statistical modelling and optimisation.
- Proven experience developing and deploying machine learning or data-intensive solutions into production environments.
- Experience developing, supporting or maintaining production software systems.
- Ability to work independently, investigate complex problems and take ownership of technical solutions.
- Strong communication skills and a collaborative approach.
Desirable Experience
- Data engineering technologies such as Databricks, PySpark or Spark.
- Cloud platforms, particularly AWS.
- Python frameworks such as FastAPI and PyTorch.
- Experience developing APIs and data pipelines.
- Infrastructure as Code, CI/CD and containerisation.
- Hands-on experience with LLMs, RAG, embeddings or generative AI.
- Mathematical optimisation techniques, such as linear programming or constraint satisfaction.
- Experience within EdTech, educational assessment or psychometrics.
- MSc or PhD in a mathematical, scientific or other quantitative discipline.
What's on Offer?
- Fully remote working anywhere within the UK.
- Opportunity to join an established international technology business.
- Work on sophisticated statistical modelling and AI-driven software products.
- Exposure to a broad range of technologies and complex engineering challenges.
- Opportunity to contribute to the development of new AI capabilities.
- Collaborative international team with significant technical autonomy.
- Long-term career development and progression.
