Job Description
Digital Transformation & Automation Lead
Secure Government Organisation
Gloucestershire | Hybrid Working
£58,431 - £60,912 + Excellent Public Sector Pension
Permanent | 37 Hours
This is a rare opportunity to lead meaningful digital and operational transformation within a secure public sector environment where the work has genuine organisational impact.
We’re supporting a secure government organisation investing heavily in automation, workflow optimisation and smarter service delivery across both operational and corporate functions.
They’re looking for a Digital Transformation & Automation Lead to help modernise how the organisation operates — leading initiatives that combine technology, automation and operational change to deliver measurable outcomes at scale.
This role sits between strategy and delivery. You’ll lead multidisciplinary teams responsible for identifying opportunities, shaping solutions and embedding sustainable change across a complex operational environment.
You’ll oversee Continuous Improvement specialists alongside RPA and Microsoft 365 development capability, driving initiatives focused on workflow automation, digital process optimisation and operational efficiency. The role spans the full lifecycle of change from discovery and prioritisation through to implementation, governance and benefits realisation.
A key focus will be identifying where automation and digital workflows can remove friction, reduce duplication and improve service delivery across the organisation. You’ll work closely with operational leadership, HR, Finance, IT and Change teams to ensure solutions are practical, scalable and aligned to business priorities.
This environment will particularly suit someone who enjoys solving operational challenges properly rather than applying short-term fixes. The organisation operates within a highly regulated setting where resilience, governance and service continuity genuinely matter, giving the role visible impact across the wider business.
You’ll likely bring:
- Experience leading digital transformation, automation or operational improvement initiatives
- Strong understanding of RPA, workflow automation and Microsoft 365 technologies
- Experience managing multidisciplinary teams and complex change programmes
- Knowledge of Lean, Six Sigma, DMAIC or similar improvement methodologies
- Strong stakeholder engagement skills across technical and non-technical environments
- Experience balancing innovation with governance, operational resilience and security requirements
- Previous experience within government, defence, emergency services or other regulated environments would be advantageous
Due to the nature of the environment, successful applicants will be required to undergo enhanced vetting and security clearance processes, including residency and background checks.
If you’re looking for a role where you can modernise services, shape long-term organisational capability and lead meaningful transformation within a secure environment, we’d be keen to speak with you.
