Job Description

The organisation is seeking a Head of Pensions (DC)  to join its Actuarial team

The successful candidate will work alongside the Director of Actuarial Regulation, Senior Project Directors and other Project Directors to deliver the objectives set out in the organisation’s annual strategy and plan.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Developing technical actuarial standards and pension illustrations in the UK.
  • Assessing the effectiveness of technical actuarial standards through a monitoring programme.
  • Providing actuarial expertise across the organisation, including support for disciplinary cases, oversight of the professional actuarial body and actuarial aspects of audit quality review inspections.
  • Contributing to the development of actuarial regulation in response to Government pension reform initiatives and the evolving pensions landscape.

The Person

The successful candidate is likely to be a Fellow of the Institute and Faculty of Actuaries (IFoA), with significant post-qualification experience. They will ideally have experience in regulation, supervision or actuarial practice and have operated at a senior level within a consultancy, in-house, management or regulatory environment.

A strong understanding of the factors that drive high-quality actuarial work is essential. Deep technical knowledge of the pensions industry is required, with significant experience in defined contribution (DC) pensions particularly desirable.

The Project Director will also demonstrate:

  • Strategic awareness of developments, challenges and emerging issues affecting the pensions and actuarial sectors.
  • Recognised technical expertise and the ability to engage credibly with senior actuarial practitioners and other senior stakeholders.
  • Strong quantitative, analytical and actuarial modelling skills.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including presentation experience and the ability to address large and challenging audiences.
  • Strong analytical judgement when assessing issues for inclusion in actuarial standards and interpreting and synthesising responses to consultation documents.
  • Knowledge of the standards and guidance issued by the IFoA, including its education, continuing professional development (CPD), competence and disciplinary frameworks.
  • The ability to work collaboratively with colleagues across different practice areas and contribute specialist expertise to cross-organisational projects.
  • Strong project leadership skills, with ownership of delivery, quality and deadlines.
  • The ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a collaborative team.
