Salary: £53,000 - £57,000 plus excellent benefits

We are looking to recruit a Test Manager for a public sector organisation going through a period of modernisation. You will design, lead, and oversee all testing activities across all projects and workstreams. As you will be responsible for developing the function you’ll be required to have hands on technical testing capability. This role is critical in ensuring that business requirements are met through robust quality assurance processes and effective team leadership.

This is a hybrid role. During the first 3 – 6 months, you will be expected to work on-site 2 – 3 days per week. Once fully settled, this is likely to reduce to approximately one day per week.

What you’ll be doing:

Test Planning:
  • Define the scope, approach, resources, and schedule of testing activities to ensure business requirements are realised.
  • Develop and maintain a test strategy and test plan.
Process Management:
  • Establish and enforce testing standards, methodologies, and best practices.
  • Ensure compliance with quality assurance processes.
Coordination and Communication:
  • Collaborate with project managers, developers, business analysts, and stakeholders.
  • Communicate test progress, results, and issues clearly and effectively.
Team Management:
  • Lead and manage a team of tester(s) (manual and/or automation). Both direct reports and Subject Matter Experts (SME) from other areas on the business.
  • Assign tasks, monitor progress, and provide guidance and support.
Risk Management:
  • Identify potential quality risks and develop mitigation strategies.
  • Make go/no-go decisions based on test results and risk assessments. (depending on results)
Reporting and Metrics:
  • Track and report on key quality metrics (e.g., defect density, test coverage, business acceptance, managing issue resolution).
  • Provide insights and recommendations for continuous improvement.

What we’re looking for

  • Proven experience in test management.
  • Strong understanding of testing methodologies and QA processes.
  • Excellent leadership and communication skills.
  • Ability to manage risks and make critical decisions.
  • Familiarity with automation tools and frameworks (desirable).
  • Strong understanding of software testing methodologies and project management
    principles (Agile, Prince2, Waterfall)
  • Experience with test management tools (e.g. JIRA, TestRail, HP ALM).
